Animal Advocates of Howard County
Animal Advocates was formed in 1994 with the sole purpose of preventing the needless death of companion animals at the County's Shelter. Both then, and now, we use a progressive multi-tiered approach focusing not only on adoption, but also prevention. We provide free spay/neuter for the pets of low-income people, as well as administering the county's reduced cost program. We speak to several thousand local schoolchildren and community groups each year about the importance of responsibility, compassion, and humane treatment of animals. We have been so successful in Howard County that we have branched out into the surrounding counties. Now 60% of our funding, which is all through private donations and grants, is spent on communities less fortunate than ours.
