Dogs on Deployment is a registered 501 (c) 3 that helps Military Service Members, Veterans and Military Families who may have to give up their pets due to a deployment, training, military relocation, hospital stay, rehabilitation or other hardship. Pets and volunteer homes are connected through a free online database offered through our website www.dogsondeployment.org.

These volunteer homes care for the animals until their owners return or are able to take their pets back. This service is offered for free to all branches of the military and help s with any type of pet. It keeps these pets out of the rescue system and the best part is they are re-united with their Military families!

Animal Advocates of Howard County LogoAnimal Advocates was formed in 1994 with the sole purpose of preventing the needless death of companion animals at the County's Shelter. Both then, and now, we use a progressive multi-tiered approach focusing not only on adoption, but also prevention. We provide free spay/neuter for the pets of low-income people, as well as administering the county's reduced cost program. We speak to several thousand local schoolchildren and community groups each year about the importance of responsibility, compassion, and humane treatment of animals. We have been so successful in Howard County that we have branched out into the surrounding counties. Now 60% of our funding, which is all through private donations and grants, is spent on communities less fortunate than ours.

Maryland Rescue LogoMaryland Westie Rescue was founded in 2007 by a small, all-volunteer group of people dedicated to saving West Highland White Terriers (Westies) in Maryland and the surrounding states. We'd like to extend a special "thank you" and to recognize the love and dedication of our volunteers, foster families, and those who have been willing to open their hearts and homes to a rescue dog. And remember, "it's all about the Westies!"

Pets on Wheels Logo

Pets on Wheels is a not for profit volunteer 501c3 organization which provides friendly visits from volunteers and their pets to those requiring the support of an institutional setting. Visits are most often to nursing homes; however, assisted living communities and facilities for the physically and mentally challenged are also recipients of our visits. Recently, veterans' hospitals, programs for the homeless, and children at risk of home out placement have also been added to our visits. Our emphasis is on residents who have been unresponsive to ongoing activities. Many of these patients have impaired cognitive abilities due to specific illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease, and react to animals with more awareness than to people around them. For instance, repetitive speech behavior or annoying mannerisms may cease while a patient is petting an animal. Click Here for more details.
